A wonderful day at the M&WEGDCs Colour Format Show and again Lesley & I are very proud breeders. Selmalda Journey To The Line - 1st Post Graduate Dog for co-owner John, Heather & Candice. Selmalda The Journey J.W. - 1st Open Dog, Best Dog and BEST IN SHOW for co-owner Jacqui. Ch. Selmalda Journey To Melody At Samdice - 1st Open Bitch, Best Bitch and RESERVE BEST IN SHOW for owners John, Heather & Candice. Selmalda ZiZis Journey J.W. - 3rd Open Bitch. Pictured with BIS Judge Geoff Duffield & Fawn Judge David Simpson is brother and sister, Ruger & Essi. Thank you to both judges for the lovely feedback and to the ringside for the compliments and congratulations. Well done to all the other winners on the day. David Simpson's critique - Selmalda The Journey JW. Strong Masculine dog who is so well balanced throughout. His friendly, outgoing attitude so apparent as he owned the ring from the moment he entered. Good head planes without excess flews or loose skin, correct high set ears really enhancing his kind but alert expression. Well arched neck flowing into correct set shoulders and good topline which he held on the move. Strong flat bone, deep well filled chest, belly well drawn up to good strong loin. Well muscled rear with low set hocks which he used to his advantage to drive him around the ring. Best Fawn Dog who went on to be awarded BIS. David Simpson's critique - Ch Selmalda Journey To Melody at Samdice. Top quality Bitch who I have admired for a long time. Litter sister to Best Fawn Dog but as much as he is all dog this bitch is very much all girl. Strong but feminine and in my eyes truly fit for function. Beautifully proportioned, parallel, well chiselled head, good length of foreface with square lips. Head carried high on well arched neck. Well filled fore chest, ribs well sprung with correct depth of brisket. Cat like feet, strong pasterns and good turn of stifle. Both front and rear showing excellent angulation, well muscled allowing her to power around the ring with ease. Best Fawn Bitch and later awarded RBIS. BIS Judge Geoff Duffield's critique - I was well happy to award BIS to Chappell & Williams Selmalda The Journey J.W., home bred from Champion parents, himself on two CC's so not long before he joins the upper house. Not only a good sound masculine dog but full of attitude and ring presence. Didn't need a lot of handling, stands naturally with dignity, setting himself up with well arched neck carrying his head so proudly. Head so clean and balanced, excellent skull, ears, muzzle and under jaw, lovely forechest, good depth of brisket, perfectly straight forelegs, strong pastern, excellent feet, very good topline and strong in loin, good tailset, very good turn of stifle, strong well muscled thighs, good hocks, best mover by far. Stunning creature. BIS Judge Geoff Duffield's critique - RBIS was Dyson's Ch. Selmalda Journey To Melody At Samdice, litter sister and again top quality. Like her sibling, sets herself up quite naturally with that same dignified head on well arched neck. Beautifully balanced head, lovely ears, good dark eye emitting totally feminine yet intelligent expression. Same remarks apply to her very correct conformation, pleasure to watch on the move.

A super day at the M&WEGDC today, really festive and a lovely atmosphere. S. The Journey J.W. - 1st Open Dog, DCC & BEST IN SHOW! (Photo) Co-owned with Jacqui. S. Journey To The Line - 3rd Limit Dog. S. ZiZis Journey J.W. - 1st Open Bitch. Ch. S. Journey To Melody At Samdice - 2nd Open Bitch for John, Heather & Candice. Lesley & I so, so proud. Thank you to both Pat Patch (Dog) and Alaine Flower (Bitch) and well done to the other winners on the day. And relax. Here is Pat's critique - Selmalda The Journey J.W., what a difficult choice between 1 & 2. At first seemingly from different moulds they both 'shout' Great Dane and have similar attributes from the breed standard. However during the class judging I preferred the smooth topline of 1 and his overall attitude and showmanship. CC and on the referee's decision BIS.

Patsy Hollings critique - Open 1st Chappell's Selmalda ZiZi's Journey J.W., this two year old was perfectly presented and in super condition. She presents a picture of dignity both standing and moving where she displays her correct construction and balanced angles to move with long, graceful action, working with handler at all times, she has elegance and showed true type, strong and feminine, a class act. BB, BIS in agreement with my co-judge.

Lesley & I were over the moon that Essi gained her 3rd and crowning CC at Midland Counties. We are so thankful to her caring owners John, Heather & Candice who not only provide her with a super home but have battled tirelessly to over come her coat condition. Now she is 100% and back out - at the three shows over the last few weeks Essi has topped the Open class on each occasion. We are so appreciative of the judges who not only awarded Essi her CCs, Stella Clark, Jeff Horswell and Barrie Croft, but also all the many other judges who have appreciated our stock over the years. This is our 14th home bred Champion and we are very proud. Here is Essis ad, carefully crafted by LisaCE, with thanks as always to Kerry for securing a prominent slot within this weeks Our Dogs.

I am overwhelmed by the amount of support that the Great Dane has received for this Pedigree Paws Unite 2016 walk. Many, many thanks to all those who have contributed so far. Here is Gavin, being interviewed by Marina, about the background to the walk, the breeds, the benefactors and of course the competitive spirit amongst the breeds. So can the Great Dane people rally round and continue to pledge as little or as much as they can afford to support ZiZi and I on the Lancaster Canal, Preston walk - we are ready, with just over a week to go, and we want to raise as much as we can. Do any of the Clubs wish to donate - Helen, Hilary, Catherine, David, Ken Toohey, Janis King, Sally, Marilyn, Tammy... Many thanks X http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserPage.action?userUrl=AdamChappell&pageUrl=2

Lesley and I had to say goodbye to Ryder on August 18th following his diagnosis with bone cancer. This is the first time we have felt that we have been able to talk about this loss and needless to say we are devastated. Ryder gave us everything all of the time and we miss him dearly. A true gentleman, never a cross word and a character and temperament that made it an honour to have him within our life, if only for a very short time.

Lesley & I are so proud of Ralf, Selmalda Im Yours J.W. WJW10, as he bowed out of the show ring last Sunday at The Great Dane Club Championship Show. Putting in a sterling performance, as he has done throughout his career, we wanted to say a big Thank You to his co-owners John, Heather & Candice with whom he lives with and who have conditioned and presented him so immaculately. Sired by the Norwegian Brindle, residing in Denmark, Highesteem Keep Em Talking and out of our own S. CMon Girl J.W. he won a number of top honours throughout his career including 1CC, 1RCC, 1CACIB, 1RCACIB & 1RCAC plus a huge World Junior Winner title that he collected in Denmark in 2010. In 2010 he was Top Points Premier League Male and last year was Top Fawn Male. He never let us down, loved his many road trips and looked the part on all occasions as per his photo below which was taken on Sunday. Thank you and enjoy your retirement Ralf X.
