Following his BOB award from breed judge Audrey Sinclair, Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy went off for the pre-judging of the Working Group under leading all rounder Paul Lawless. Guy, as always, put in a super performance and managed to stride out in the restrictive ring. Later it was into the main ring where Guy gets into his own stride and thrives on the buzz of the competition. Making the first short cut down to the last 7 we were over the moon when Paul Lawless gave the number one spot to Guy, his first Working Group 1. Working Group judge Paul Lawless' critique - another look at each of the finalists and after they had all moved again, I chose the Great Dane as my winner, Chappell's Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy. A young Brindle male of great size, super masculine head piece, lovely crest of neck and excellent topline and croup. He has excellent bone and good feet and was beautifully presented and he is quite the showman. Once he finds his stride, he presents a lovely balanced outline on the move. Was delighted to watch him go on to win Best In Show.

Following his Working Group 1 win under Paul Lawless it was not long before Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy was called upon again to compete against the other six group winners for the ultimate prize. From over 4200 exhibits, over two days, we were very proud to share this ring with such quality representatives of their respective Groups. Again, Guy put in a faultless performance for the judge Tom Johnstone and following a further inspection the contenders moving the award boards were called for - Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy was awarded BEST IN SHOW at The Scottish Kennel Club's 200th Championship Show. WOW! Best In Show judge Tom Johnstone's critique - After further serious consideration the top honours had to go to: BEST Chappell's Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy. Great Dane, dog. Head masculine, strong and of good length but not overdone. Skull not too broad, good muzzle. Medium sized dark eye, well set triangular ears. Long neck into well placed muscular shoulders. Deep body, well sprung rib, strong loin and firm back. Well set tail of good length. Well angled muscular rear, very good quality bone and good well arched feet with strong nails. Presented in very good sleek coat and good condition. Well-muscled. Balanced and very together when covering ground with free steady action holding a firm outline and good head carriage.

Lesley and I had a lovely weekend in Ireland, staying in a very quaint cottage in Lisburn. At Belfast DSS on Sunday all rounder Tom Johnstone was appointed and awarded Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy 1st in the Open class and ultimately the DCC, his 23rd. In the Open Bitch class our own Ch. Selmalda Oh Lori was the winner with half sister, jointly owned with Fiona Byrne, Ir. Ch. Selmalda After All second. Lori was awarded the BCC, her 10th, with Margot collecting the RCC. Guy was awarded BOB over his litter sister Lori - another super double and a great set of results. Sincere thanks to all for their kind words and support.

Lesley and I attended Darlington with our owner bred Brindle male, Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy. Breed judge Peter King awarded Guy 1st in the Open Dog class, then eventually the CC and ultimately Best Of Breed. He was short listed, down to the last eight, in the Working Group under Moa Persson and won a respectable third place in the Eukanuba Champion Stakes under Liz Cartledge. With this CC Guy becomes the TOP WINNING BRINDLE OF ALL TIME.

Lesley and I were delighted that Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy was awarded his 21st CC at Richmond CDS from judge Scott Pearson. Guy always puts in a sterling performance and never lets us down. Judge Scott Pearson's critique - OD (3 Entries) Abs: 0 1st: CHAPPELLS, Ch Selmalda Jealous Guy (AI) An outstanding brindle dog of great proportion. His head is strong with elegance and offers a silhouette of excellent breed type, A strong well angulated front confirms his true movement He is well muscled and was shown in excellent condition, so pleasing to see a great dog and handler at one. A pleasure to judge and a worthy Champion. DCC.

Lesley and I were so proud to see the latest standings in the Top Dog Competition, as published in Our Dogs. Our owner bred Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy is currently Top Great Dane with 29 points (does not include his 4 points secured at WKC last week) and is 4th place in the Working Group. His Dam, Ch. Selmalda ZiZi's Journey J.W., is also currently Top Brood Bitch in the breed following the success this year of both Guy and his sister, Ch. Selmalda Oh Lori. ZiZi was Top Brood Bitch All Breeds in 2021.

It was continued success for Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy at WKC. Not the biggest of entries for judge Bill Browne-Cole but proving that you have to be 'in it to win it'! Guy was awarded his 19th CC, and BOB, and put in another sterling performance. Into the Group and what a fabulous Group it was with many excellent examples of their respective breeds. Barrie Croft was the appointed judge and following his first cut of 10 Guy made it through and was placed 3rd. Barrie's critique, 'Brindle male Dane, he had to be a special one to come in 3rd, a breed very close to my heart! A big winner in the breed and I can totally understand why, just looks so correct, fabulous head nothing overdone, classic neck and what you see is what you get and I totally loved what I could see, everything flows and fits, typical Dane movement showing strength coming and going, it helps being shown by one of the breeds top handlers in the breed! Was I impressed? You bet I was.'

In the Group Guy secured a very respectable 4th placing amongst some smashing breed winners - (Jr. Cr. Ch. Am. Ch. King Arthur De Casaarabel X Ch. Selmalda ZiZi’s Journey J.W.) A very long day, a super day with friends as we waited for the Group and wonderful support all round. Lesley and I are delighted with the results and are so proud of our Danes and all that achieve. From an entry of 70 Danes Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy wins his 13th CC and BOB from leading all rounder Lee Cox. It was hot day but Guy kept his cool to claim the ultimate award. His full sister, Ch. Selmalda Oh Lori, topped her Open Bitch class and was awarded the RCC. Later Guy was awarded WORKING Group 2 under Bill Browne-Cole, his fourth Group 2 award - he is getting so close! Thank you for all the positive comments on the day and later on social media, Lesley and I are justifiably proud of these kids.

(#12) Working Group Shortlist What a lovely day Lesley and I had at Windsor today - perfect dog show weather, super size ring and of course Her Majesty keeping a watchful eye on proceedings. Delighted with Guys achievements, he never lets us down and always gives a super performance. Many thanks to breed judge Leah Connolly and group judge Christopher Quantrill. Well done to all the other winners today, thanks to those who stayed behind and supported us - it is greatly appreciated.

A wild and windy day for the Northern Great Dane Club and their Championship Show. Sheila Richens judged the males and awarded Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy 1st in Open Dog and later the RCC. Gillian Rose judged the bitches and awarded Ch. Selmalda Oh Lori 2nd in Open Bitch. With the final decisions between both judges Guy was awarded Reserve Best In Show. Delighted with our kids who both performed impeccably, we are justifiably proud. Here is Judge Sheila Richens critique -Very well known winner, and I can understand why. Well marked, dark brindle, with super classic head. Dark eye and melting expression. Strong crested neck with good shoulder placement, and straight bone. Not as wide in front as some, which can effect feet placement, but has excellent spring of rib and depth to chest. Correct topline with hard well angulated rear, and good width across croup, which enabled him to travel around the ring with ease, with a lithe springy action with precision. This dog ,when standing, cannot be ignored. His outline, condition, and presentation is second to none. A worthy champion, and happy to give him RCC today. Well done.

Lesley and I are just home after a fabulous day at Southern Counties CA. Sincere thanks to breed judge Steve Atkinson who awarded; Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy - 1st Open Dog, DCC (#10) and BOB. Ch. Selmalda Oh Lori - 1st Open Bitch and BCC (#9). (Jr. Cr. Ch. Am. Ch. King Arthur De Casaarabel X Ch. Selmalda ZiZi’s Journey J.W.) Guy went on to claim Working Group 3 under Espen Engh. Guy also topped the Eukanuba Champion Stakes (Working/Pastoral) under Kimmo Mustonen and later in the day was awarded Runner Up to the beautiful Fox Terrier.

Ch. Selmalda Jealous Guy claimed his 9th CC at Bath CS under all rounder judge Mark Cocozza. A super win for Guy who also was awarded BOB from an entry of 61. There was no placing in the Group but Lesley and I were delighted with his overall performance, so proud. His full sister, Ch. Selmalda Oh Lori was 2nd in Open Bitch. The SWGDC had their B2B show and Carol Gray awarded Guy 2nd in Open and the RCC. Lori was 4th! A super venue and facilities, a wonderful day.
